Close Encounter with Thresher Shark in Malapascua, Cebu
Nope! That’s not a Pokemon. That’s actually a thresher shark.
The video of this majestic creature was taken and posted by Margo Peyton, when her group visited the Philippines. They went to several tourist places like Cebu and Bohol, and swimming with the thresher shark was part of Margo’s Kids Sea Camp.
Margo is a PADI Master Instructor and is in the Women Divers Hall of Fame. She also expressed how beautiful the thresher sharks are, and how the Philippines is a great cultural experience. Her group hopes that the new president will make more actions towards protecting the sharks, coral reefs and other marine wildlife.
“PHILIPPINES IS RICH WITH CULTURE AND MARINE WILDLIFE. IT IS THE BEST, REALLY BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHIEST AND SAFEST DIVING PLACE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN 30 YEARS OF DIVING.”
Don’t know what thresher shark is?
The thresher shark is a type of mackerel with its huge scythe-like tail. They are also known as the fox shark because of their tail. Thresher sharks live in deep water and are nocturnal so it is rare for divers to see these creatures during the day. They usually feed on squid and other fishes like herring and mackerel. They use their tails to lure the fishes into smaller schools.
Sadly, they are endangered since they are over-fished for their tail and meat, but Monad Shoal has become a marine park to protect these animals.
