Where to go

Water adventure in Cebu: From the Cebu capitol, ride a bus from the South Bus Terminal going towards the town of Oslob. Once you arrive at the town proper, catch a tricycle ride to Barangay Tan-awan — that’s where you’ll be able to dive and swim alongside the gentle giants known as butanding or whale sharks.

What to do

Upon arriving at Barangay Tan-awan, simply ask any local to point you to where you can avail of tour packages for whale shark diving. Or for more convenience, you can actually book a diving tour online, like the services offered by Island Trek Tours through the website www.oslobwhalesharks.com.

Budget

As to be expected, the diving experience is a bit pricey at Php 7,300 per pax (for locals). But once you get to dive and swim alongside the whale sharks, you’ll realize that this once-in-a lifetime experience was well worth it.

Foreigners are charged at around Php 8,200 per person. And for first-time divers, you will be charged an additional Php 1,000 for the required 30-minute introductory course.

The package includes: round-trip air-conditioned transport to and from any hotel, resort or residence (Cebu City/Mactan Island); diving equipment; government diving fee and all other fees; guide with diving master; breakfast and lunch refreshments

Other packages are also available if you bring along your friends along with you to go whale shark diving.

Other Info

Please bear in mind that if you avail of the tour or diving packages, a refund on transportation charges will not be provided in the event that the whale sharks don’t appear on the location due to inclement weather and other environmental factors beyond the control of the local guides and dive masters.

Where to Go

If you’re looking for an exhilarating adventure that involves hiking, climbing, rappelling along canyons and jumping down a fast-flowing mountain stream, then you will definitely enjoy one of the most extreme adventures in the Philippines called canyoning or canyoneering. One of the places in Cebu that you should visit.

The best place to indulge in this extreme activity is in South Cebu, specifically in Barangay Matutinao in the Municipality of Badian or in Barangay Compostela in the Municipality of Alegria . Both municipalities are about 3 to 4 hours away from the City of Cebu.

What to Do

Safety should always be a priority in any extreme adventure, so it’s best to find a credible, well-established and well-trained tour operator and guide. So do your research and look for a tour operator which has had a long experience in canyoneering and has served a number of clients already. Scour the internet as well for reviews and recommendations from other people who have already posted or blogged about their canyoneering experience.

Budget

In getting the services of tour operators, the price rate for the canyoneering adventure ranges from 1,000 to 1,200 per person. These packages would usually include the services of the guides, safety gear and equipment, registration and environmental fees and refreshments.

Other Info

Before you make any plans to go canyoneering in Cebu, please note that the Provincial Government of Cebu has recently released an Executive Order temporarily suspending all canyoneering activities in South Cebu from June 1, 2016 until August 1, 2016 due to accident reports involving tourists. So any canyoneering adventure will have to be stalled for awhile, but it’s all for the best.

Hopefully, the suspension will be lifted by August once all the necessary rules, regulations and guidelines have been put into place to ensure everyone’s safety. Kindly wait for the official announcement before making any plans or bookings.
